Rehearsals are normally held at Old Nick HQ (50A Letitia Street, North Hobart, although, in the lead-up to opening night we will move into the theatre.
Rehearsals are normally held two weeknights per week and on Sunday afternoons. Towards the end of March, rehearsal times will be extended to finish later during the week and all day Sundays. There may be extra ‘backup’ rehearsals added in if required such as on Saturdays.
Not every cast member will be called to every rehearsal but the cast are expected to be available at these times as the rehearsal schedule may change at short notice.
Your production team will provide you with further information and a full rehearsal schedule at the time of auditions.
Rehearsals are usually planned to be either focussing on ‘dance’, ‘vocal’, ‘script work / blocking’ or a combination of both. This will be outlined to you the week prior but it’s best to come prepared for physical activity including water, appropriate clothing and footwear, as in showbiz things can change.
You will always be provided with an opportunity for both a physical and vocal warm up.
At Old Nick this means arriving 10 minutes before the scheduled start time. If you are unable to attend a rehearsal or are going to be late please notify the director and production manager as soon as possible.
Smoking breaks should be kept to a minimum. Generally, we expect that you should not be outside for more than 10 minutes twice per rehearsal (aside from meal breaks). You will find that there will be natural ‘ebbs and flows’ to rehearsals and opportunities for breaks will present themselves. Just ensure you are back and ready to go when you are needed so as not to hold up the rest of the production.
There are no food or beverage outlets close to Old Nick HQ.
If you have access to transport, the nearest food outlets are on the North Hobart strip. On weekends you will receive a dedicated meal break with enough time to drive to North Hobart. However, on weeknights the schedule is tighter and it is likely you will not have time to drive somewhere to get food or drinks.
Therefore, please bring with you anything you may need during rehearsal, or you can take advantage of Uber Eats. You also may find you are quite hungry after rehearsals and shows - at which time the food outlets will likely be closed - so please plan ahead especially for dinners.
It’s not uncommon for cast members to feel slightly nauseous after eating and then engaging in strenuous exercise such as warm ups, dance routines and moving across the stage. Each person should make their own decisions and plans, but we’ve found that eating at least one hour prior to rehearsal or after rehearsal - supplemented with light snacks in between such as muesli bars or sandwiches works well.
It’s also common to lose weight during production! While this is music to some people’s ears please do monitor your weight and health and ensure you adjust your intake to match your level of exercise and energy expenditure. If you are unsure, speak with your GP and let them know about your involvement in the production.
